Prague with Kids: Parks, Playgrounds and Family Sights

Prague is a good city for families. The centre is compact, public transport is straightforward and there are plenty of parks and kid-friendly attractions. A relaxed pace with one or two main stops a day works best.

Parks and open space

  • Petřín Hill: a climbable tower, a mirror maze and gardens. Check whether the funicular has reopened. See Petřín and Vyšehrad.
  • Stromovka: a large park with paths, ponds and playgrounds.
  • Letná Park: open lawns and views over the river.

Attractions

  • The zoo in Troja is a popular full-day option. Check opening hours.
  • Science and technology museums offer hands-on exhibits. See museums in Prague.
  • River boat trips are a restful way to see the city from the water.

Getting around

Trams, buses and metro are easy to use. Children’s fares and free-travel rules depend on age, so check the official PID tariff before you travel. See getting around Prague.

Tips

  • Cobbled streets are tough for strollers. A carrier can be easier in the Old Town.
  • Plan breaks. Cafés and parks are everywhere.
  • Avoid the busiest tourist streets at midday.
