Children often enjoy castles, caves and towns with towers to climb. The Czech Republic has plenty, many within a short trip from Prague. Choose one or two stops, not a long list.
Castles
- Karlštejn: a famous medieval castle on a hill near Prague. The walk up from the village is part of the visit. See Karlštejn.
- Konopiště: a castle and park near Benešov. Interiors are by guided tour and the hunting trophies may not suit younger children. See Konopiště.
- Hluboká: a fairytale-style chateau in South Bohemia. See Hluboká and České Budějovice.
- Český Krumlov: a castle with a bear moat and a town to explore. See Český Krumlov.
Caves and nature
The Moravian Karst offers cave tours and an underground boat ride. Check age and accessibility rules before booking.
Tour tips
- Guided tours can be long for young children. Check tour length and whether shorter options exist.
- Book ahead in peak season and during school holidays.
- Bring snacks and water, because food options near some castles are limited.
- Check stroller access, since many castles have steps.
