Autumn, Wine Harvest and Beer Season in the Czech Republic

Autumn is a rewarding season for travellers who like food, wine and quieter sights. The summer crowds thin out, forests turn colour and wine regions in South Moravia celebrate the harvest.

Wine harvest in Moravia

Local wine festivals (often called vinobraní) take place in many towns and villages in the autumn. You may find tastings of burčák, a young partly fermented wine that is only available for a short time. Dates and locations vary, so check local tourism sources. Read our Czech wine guide and consider a trip to Lednice-Valtice or Mikulov.

Autumn colours

Forested areas such as Šumava, the Bohemian Paradise and the Krkonoše are at their best in early to mid autumn. See the outdoors hub.

Beer and food

Pubs and breweries are warm, comfortable places as weather cools. Game dishes, roast duck and dumplings appear on many menus. See our beer and food hub.

Planning tips

  • Weather can switch quickly, so bring layers.
  • Some seasonal attractions close from late October. Check dates.
  • Daylight shortens, so start early.
