Spring is a lovely time to visit. Parks and gardens come into bloom, outdoor terraces reopen and crowds are usually lighter than in high summer. Weather is changeable, so pack layers and a rain jacket.
Easter traditions
Easter markets appear in many Czech towns in the weeks before the holiday, with painted eggs, crafts and seasonal food. A well-known local custom is pomlázka, a braided willow whip used on Easter Monday as a playful ritual. Visitors see it mostly in rural areas and in families, and it is not usually something you will meet in a tourist setting.
Where to go in spring
- Prague: gardens, Petřín and riverside walks. See Petřín and Vyšehrad.
- Český Krumlov and South Bohemia: fewer crowds than in summer, though some attractions open later in the season. Check dates.
- Moravia: Lednice-Valtice parks and cycling begin to open up.
Planning tips
- Some castles and attractions open only from a set date in spring. Check before you go.
- Public holidays around Easter affect shops and transport. Check timetables.
- Rain is common, so keep a backup indoor plan.
