Prague accommodation spans a wide range, and the single biggest lever on what you pay isn’t star rating, it’s neighbourhood. Staying in Vinohrady rather than the Old Town roughly halves the nightly cost for equivalent quality, at the price of a 15-minute tram ride to the main sights.
By Type (Nightly, Standard Double) #
Hostel dormitory bed: CZK 450 to 700 per person. Prague has excellent hostel infrastructure in both the Old Town and Vinohrady.
Hostel private room / budget guesthouse: CZK 900 to 2,000. The pension format, small family-run guesthouses, is strong in the outer neighbourhoods and often the best value in the city.
Mid-range hotel: CZK 2,000 to 3,500 in Vinohrady or the New Town; CZK 3,500 to 5,500 for the equivalent in the Old Town.
Boutique and 4-star: CZK 4,000 to 8,000, higher in the historic centre.
Luxury / 5-star: CZK 8,000 and up, concentrated in the Old Town and Malá Strana.
The Neighbourhood Trade-Off #
The Old Town and Malá Strana carry a 40 to 100 percent premium for proximity to the sights, and the surrounding area is oriented toward tourists rather than residents. The New Town is a 5 to 15 minute walk from the centre at 20 to 40 percent less. Vinohrady, the neighbourhood most worth considering for stays over a few nights, is 15 to 20 minutes by tram, meaningfully cheaper, and has the best café and restaurant scene in the city. Seasonal Pricing #
Rates peak in summer (July and August) and around the December Christmas markets, and drop to their annual low in January and February, when off-peak deals can run 30 to 50 percent below summer rates. Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for peak periods, and further still if your visit coincides with the Prague Spring Music Festival (May) or the Metronome Festival (June).
Extra Costs to Budget For #
Prague levies a small city accommodation tax per person per night. Check whether breakfast and parking are included or charged separately, and confirm whether an older building has a lift if that matters to you, many historic-centre properties don’t.
Longer Stays #
For stays over two weeks, monthly apartment rentals in Vinohrady or Žižkov run CZK 15,000 to 25,000 for a one-bedroom, considerably better value than nightly rates. The cost of living guide covers this.
